All the beauty essentials we need this summer!

All the beauty essentials we need this summer!

It’s (almost) that time of year again, when we start believing in the ‘less is more’ approach and swap all our beauty products from the winter for that sun-kissed appearance. If you’re stuck for which products to opt for, then fret no more as we are here to give you a low-down on all your beauty essentials this summer!

It all starts with SPF

Sunscreen is no longer a maybe, it’s a necessity! One thing I loathe about most sunscreens is the sticky feeling they leave, especially in the summer when that’s the last thing I want to deal with. However, over the years I’ve found three of my staple sunscreens, two of which dry out to a matte finish whilst the Dermalogica TRx Pure Light SPF50 is completely absorbed into the skin so doesn’t leave any sort of residue (and makeup glides on beautifully over it too!).

Dermalogica Pure Light TRx SPF50 £60 ($68), Murad City Skin Broad Spectrum SPF50 PA++++ £60 ($68), La Roche Posay Anthelios Tinted Shaka Fluid SPF50 £17 (USA: La Roche Posay Anthelios SPF50 Mineral Sunscreen ($29.99))

Enhance your complexion

Use either a tinted moisturiser or BB cream to even out your complexion, as that will still let your skin show through. To achieve a flawless glow, the last thing you want to do is to cover your whole face up with makeup since the main aim for the perfect summer beauty regimen is to let your skin show through, and use products to enhance your beauty. Many BB creams and tinted moisturisers have added SPF, which is great as it gives you added protection. However, it is important to note that you should still wear SPF underneath as you need 1 teaspoon of SPF on your face to get the right protection, which is not possible with tinted moisturisers or BB creams as you’ll end up looking cakey.

NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser Broad Spectrum SPF30 £31 ($45), Pixi by Petra Beauty Balm £22 ($22)

A bit more coverage won’t hurt…

Parties and other events will require a bit more coverage than other days, so I have you covered with the bestestestestestest foundation in the whole wide world! I LOVE this foundation so much I cannot live without it! It’s my holy grail which blends out seamlessly to give me the most beautiful dewy finish which can easily be built up to medium coverage. If you have an oily T-zone, dust on some loose powder and you’re good to go!

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat Le Teint £35 ($54)

Blush on

Cream blushes work really well to give you those straight outta the gym type of flushed cheeks without looking powdery. Sunrise by Laura Mercier is my absolute fave for the summer because the deep peachy tone blends in so well with my bronzer to give me the best temporary fake tan. If you don’t want to spend that much on a blush (which is totally understandable), then e.l.f have a peach cream blush at a much more affordable price tag!

Laura Mercier Créme Cheek Colour Blush Sunrise £23 ($29), e.l.f Beautifully Bare Cheeky Glow £5 ($4)

Don’t sweat it out

Let’s face it, we all perspire a lot more during the summer so it’s important to keep setting powder at bay because after all, who likes an oily T-zone?

NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder Pressed £29 ($37)

Brighten up!

Highlighter is key during the summer. I mean, it’s the only time of year that the rays of the sun will bounce off your cheekbones at the perfect angle to give you the best Instagram snap! I personally prefer using liquid highlighter on a daily basis as it gives you the most subtle lit from within glow (which can be built up to a more blinding highlight), but for parties, nothing beats a good baked highlighter for day times and pressed formulas for the night!

L’oréal Paris Glow Mon Amour Liquid Highlighting Drops £9.99 ($14.99), Makeup Revolution Soph Highlighter Palette £8 ($12)

Volumise your lashes

Any makeup look is incomplete without the lashes! Falsies or not, you MUST give your lashes a coat of mascara to ensure your eyes look defined.

L’oréal Paris Paradise Mascara £11.99 ($8.24)

The alternative fake tan

A summer makeup look is incomplete without a bronzer. That’s what will give us the sunkissed look after all!

Maybelline Face Studio City Bronze £7.99 ($8), L’oréal Chromatic Bronze Palette £7.99 ($14.99)

It’s time for the gloss!

Matte lipsticks are in, but nothing beats a glossy lip during the summer! I feel that a good lip gloss brings the whole look together, be it a nude shade during the day, or a more bold red at night!

Charlotte Tilbury Lip Lustre in Seduction £17.50 ($22), NYX Butter Gloss in Tiramisu £5.50 ($5), NARS Lip Gloss in Eternal Red £19 ($24)
